AIP-06: Governance & Versioning (No Timeline Commitment)
Abstract#
Defines how standards evolve without implying a public timeline commitment.
Motivation#
Public specs should:
-
provide clarity on evolution mechanics,
-
avoid creating implied delivery commitments,
-
remain compatible with progressive decentralization.
Normative Requirements#
-
All AIPs MUST be versioned.
-
Breaking changes MUST be declared explicitly.
-
Runtime compatibility MUST be documented for each change.
-
Governance MAY approve future AIP revisions (including DAO governance in future phases).
-
Deprecated AIPs MUST remain archived and referenced for compatibility.
-
This specification MUST NOT be interpreted as committing to a specific governance timeline.
Guidance (Informative)#
Progressive decentralization typically evolves through:
-
initial operator governance,
-
multi-party stewardship,
-
formal DAO governance.
The timeline depends on adoption, security maturity, and ecosystem readiness.
