AIP-06: Governance & Versioning (No Timeline Commitment)

AIP-06: Governance & Versioning (No Timeline Commitment)

Abstract#

Defines how standards evolve without implying a public timeline commitment.

Motivation#

Public specs should:

  • provide clarity on evolution mechanics,

  • avoid creating implied delivery commitments,

  • remain compatible with progressive decentralization.

Normative Requirements#

  1. All AIPs MUST be versioned.

  2. Breaking changes MUST be declared explicitly.

  3. Runtime compatibility MUST be documented for each change.

  4. Governance MAY approve future AIP revisions (including DAO governance in future phases).

  5. Deprecated AIPs MUST remain archived and referenced for compatibility.

  6. This specification MUST NOT be interpreted as committing to a specific governance timeline.

Guidance (Informative)#

Progressive decentralization typically evolves through:

  • initial operator governance,

  • multi-party stewardship,

  • formal DAO governance.

The timeline depends on adoption, security maturity, and ecosystem readiness.
